Counseling for Boerne, Texas

My office is in Fair Oaks Ranch, about fifteen minutes from Boerne straight down I-10. I also live in Boerne, so this is a drive I make daily and a town I know as a resident rather than as a catchment area.

A good number of the people I see come from Boerne. Some of them chose an office that is deliberately not in Boerne, which is worth saying plainly: in a town this size, running into your counselor at H-E-B is a real consideration, and being a few miles down the road solves it.

The drive, and where you will park

Fifteen minutes down I-10 to the Fair Oaks Ranch exit, then a short run to Building 3, Suite 3201. Parking is free and directly outside the door, which is not nothing when you are already unsettled about the appointment itself.

It is far enough from Boerne to feel private and close enough that a session does not eat your afternoon. If you would like to see the building and the room before you come, there are photographs.

What people come in for

The same things people bring anywhere: anxiety, depression, addiction and the years after stopping, relationships that keep arriving at the same argument, grief, anger, and the stretches where a life changes shape and you are not sure who you are in it.

I work with adults, individually and as couples. You do not need a diagnosis and you do not need to have worked out what the real problem is before you call.

More about who I work with

How I work

I practise Gestalt therapy, which in plain terms means we work with what is happening now, as it happens, rather than spending the hour analysing your history from a safe distance. It is a conversation, though a more attentive one than usual.

If you have come across Gestalt before and what you found was archive footage of a man in a jumpsuit shouting at someone in an empty chair, that is not this, and it has not been that for fifty years.

Fees, and why insurance is not part of it

I am no longer taking on new clients who want to use insurance, so sessions are self-pay and there is no superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. That costs you money and there are real reasons for it, mostly to do with what an insurer requires before it will pay — a diagnosis in the first session, and a say in how long the work runs.

The first phone call is free and carries no obligation, including no obligation to book anything at the end of it.
